The PostFinance Arena holds a European-wide attendance record, with an average of 16,203 spectators in the 2008/2009 season.

Renovation

Due to its age and in preparation for the 2009 IIHF World Championships, the arena was renovated. The owner invested approximately 100 million Swiss francs (~$100 million) in the extension and restoration of the building. The modification was completed on April 24, 2009, when the World Championships began. The interior of the arena is largely unchanged, especially the steeply sloping standing stand, which is very popular with fans. However, the VIP area has been completely rebuilt and its capacity has been increased by about 500 people. The total capacity is now 17,031 spectators.

  • The PostFinance Arena has the world's largest standing room in an arena.
