History of the stadium

Masan Baseball Stadium opened in 1982 and became one of the key baseball venues in southern South Korea. It served for many years as a regional sports hub before becoming the home of the NC Dinos during their early KBO League period. The stadium hosted professional games until 2018–2019, when the team moved to the modern Changwon NC Park. Since then, it has been used for amateur matches, training sessions, and local competitions. Its history is closely tied to the growth of baseball in the Changwon–Masan region.

Architecture and design

The stadium features a simple, traditional oval baseball layout typical of older Korean ballparks. It has a single-tier seating structure that keeps fans relatively close to the field. The design is functional rather than modern, with limited roofing and basic facilities compared to newer KBO stadiums. Its compact size contributes to a more intimate viewing experience, especially during well-attended games.

Atmosphere and matchday experience

When it was used for KBO games, Masan Baseball Stadium was known for its energetic and close-knit atmosphere. The smaller capacity created a more personal connection between players and fans. Supporters of the NC Dinos were particularly vocal, contributing to a lively environment despite the stadium’s modest infrastructure. Today, while professional matchday energy is reduced, the venue still retains a nostalgic baseball feel during local games.

Location and accessibility

The stadium is located in the Masan area of Changwon, in South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. It is accessible by local bus services and road connections linking it to central Changwon. The surrounding area is urban, with residential and commercial zones nearby. While not as central as newer stadiums, it remains relatively easy to reach within the city.

Origin of the stadium name

The name “Masan Baseball Stadium” comes directly from its original location in the former city of Masan, which was later merged into Changwon. The name reflects its geographic identity rather than any corporate sponsorship. Even after administrative changes, the stadium has retained its original name, preserving its historical connection to the Masan region and its baseball heritage.
