The Crown Ground opened in 1970 and became the home of Accrington Stanley shortly after the club’s reformation. Built to replace Peel Park, it has followed the club through its rise from non-league football to the English Football League. Over the years, the stadium has been gradually upgraded to meet EFL standards, reflecting Accrington Stanley’s steady progression through the English football pyramid.
The stadium has a capacity of around 5,450 spectators, with four small stands positioned close to the pitch. Its compact layout creates an intimate atmosphere typical of traditional English grounds. The facilities remain modest, but functional, emphasizing authenticity and proximity between players and supporters rather than large-scale modern infrastructure.
The Crown Ground is located in Accrington, Lancashire, in the north-west of England. Situated within a residential area, it is easily accessible on foot from the town centre and by local transport. Its setting reinforces the stadium’s strong connection to the local community.
The stadium is commercially known as the Wham Stadium due to a naming rights agreement with Wham Engineering, a local manufacturing company. Despite this, many supporters and football fans continue to refer to it by its traditional name, the Crown Ground.
