Stadio Friuli — aka Bluenergy Stadium — in Udine is Udinese Calcio’s modern, eco-friendly home since 1976. Renowned for its diamond-pattern steel façade, 25,144 covered seats, and removal of its athletics track, it’s intimate and steep. It hosted World Cup games in 1990, underwent major renovations (2013–16), and now offers stadium tours and sustainable innovation.
Stadio Friuli, also known as Bluenergy Stadium since 2023, opened on September 26, 1976 in the Rizzi district of Udine. It replaced the old Stadio Moretti and was originally municipally owned. After Udinese Calcio secured a 99-year lease in 2013 and funded extensive renovations (2013–2016), the athletics track was removed and new stands added right against the pitch.
The all-seater stadium now holds approximately 25,144 spectators, with full roof coverage across four sides. It features a natural grass pitch (105 × 68 m), under-soil heating, and steep stands that create an intimate atmosphere.
The stadium is recognizable by its satin-finish steel façade composed of 10,000 diamond-shaped panels. The west stand is supported by a 33 m-high concrete arch. The venue includes integrated retail, family zones, fitness areas, and plans for a museum and event spaces as part of its redevelopment.
“Friuli” refers to the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia in northeastern Italy. The stadium’s name honours the local identity and community that the stadium serves.
Originally designed to hold over 41,000 fans, its capacity was reduced to 25,144 post-renovation to improve comfort and intimacy. It hosted matches during the 1990 FIFA World Cup and continues as a Premier Serie A venue with regular sell-outs. In 2023, it was named Europe’s most eco‑sustainable stadium and is set to host the 2025 UEFA Super Cup.
