About this place
History
The story of Ernest-Wallon begins in the early 1980s, when the club was forced to leave its original ground at Ponts Jumeaux due to the construction of the Toulouse ring road. In accordance with a 1941 law protecting sports facilities, the city provided a new site just over a kilometer away. Construction started in 1978 and the new stadium officially opened on December 4, 1983, with a France–Romania rugby match.
Naming and Legacy
Named after Ernest Wallon — a law professor, early rugby advocate, and the first president of Stade Toulousain — the stadium has witnessed decades of legendary performances. Renovations in the 2000s modernized the venue and brought it up to professional standards, with improvements for spectators, players, and sponsors alike.
Modern Upgrades
In 2016, Ernest-Wallon became the first fully connected rugby stadium in Europe, offering free public Wi-Fi and a club-specific app to enhance the matchday experience. Further upgrades in 2019 included the installation of a hybrid pitch and extensive remodeling of locker rooms, player facilities, and hospitality zones.
Toulouse Olympique XIII
Since 2020, the stadium has also hosted Toulouse Olympique XIII, the city’s rugby league team, following the cancellation of renovations at their previous venue. Ernest-Wallon now stands as a dual-code rugby arena, embracing both traditions under one roof.
A Symbol of Rugby Excellence
From local legends to international battles, Ernest-Wallon continues to write rugby history — one match at a time.
