Palestra Arena was inaugurated in 2021, replacing the old Chaumont gymnasium and stadium that once stood on the same site. Built to support the growth of Chaumont Volley-Ball 52, one of France’s top volleyball clubs, the arena also hosts basketball, handball, martial arts, and various cultural events. It represents a major investment in local sports infrastructure and community life in Haute-Marne.
The arena was designed as a modern multifunctional complex with a capacity of around 2,500 spectators. It features a flexible layout with retractable stands, a professional parquet court, and modern lighting and sound systems. Its architecture combines functionality with sleek design, making it suitable for both national competitions and entertainment shows.
Palestra is located to the west of Chaumont, at the entrance of the Haut-du-Val district. The site was chosen to replace the previous gymnasium and stadium, providing the city with a centralized and easily accessible sports and cultural venue. Parking areas and local bus routes connect the complex with the rest of Chaumont.
The arena is significant not only as the home of a top-flight volleyball club but also as a symbol of the city’s commitment to modern sports facilities. By hosting volleyball matches, regional tournaments, and cultural events such as concerts, Palestra has established itself as a multipurpose hub for Chaumont and the Haute-Marne region.
