Mestalla is a football stadium inaugurated in 1923 and has served as the home of Valencia CF for over a century. It is one of the oldest active stadiums in Spain and is widely recognized for its intimidating environment, created by steep stands that place supporters very close to the pitch.
History of the stadium
The stadium was built during the early development of professional football in Spain and quickly became a central symbol of Valencia CF. Over the decades, Mestalla has witnessed domestic league triumphs, European campaigns, and international matches, including fixtures during the 1982 FIFA World Cup. Despite plans for relocation, it remains the club’s historic stronghold.

Mestalla is best known for its verticality. The stands rise sharply above the pitch, creating one of the steepest seating configurations in European football. Why is it called Mestalla?
