History
The stadium opened in 1996 as the Amsterdam ArenA, marking a new era for Dutch football by replacing the historic De Meer Stadion. It was designed to give Ajax a modern, multi-purpose home capable of hosting UEFA finals and large-scale events. Over the years, it has staged Champions League matches, international fixtures, and major concerts. In 2018, the venue was officially renamed Johan Cruyff ArenA in tribute to the legendary Dutch footballer, coach, and visionary who profoundly shaped Ajax and world football.
