3Arena is a modern multi-purpose stadium in Stockholm, Sweden, serving as the home ground for both Hammarby IF and Djurgårdens IF. Opened in 2013 and renamed in 2025, it stands out for its retractable roof, aluminum-clad facade, and large-scale versatility, making it one of the most important venues in Scandinavia.
The 3Arena was officially inaugurated on 20 July 2013 with a match between Hammarby IF and Örgryte IS. Designed to replace two historic grounds — Söderstadion and Stockholms Stadion — it aimed to provide a shared, state-of-the-art venue for Hammarby IF and Djurgårdens IF. Originally known as Tele2 Arena due to a naming rights deal with Swedish telecom company Tele2, the stadium was renamed 3Arena in 2025.
The stadium has a total capacity of 30,370 for football matches and up to 40,000 for concerts. Its standout feature is a retractable roof that allows year-round usage regardless of weather. The façade is made from 3 mm perforated aluminum sheets, giving it a sleek and modern appearance. As a multi-functional arena, it is designed to host not only football but also concerts, motorsports, equestrian shows, winter sports, and large corporate events.
3Arena is located in Johanneshov, a vibrant district in southern Stockholm. The stadium benefits from excellent public transport connectivity, with six metro stations, two light rail stops (Tvärbanan), and a bus terminal within a 1-kilometer radius. This makes it one of the most accessible venues in the Nordic region.
From 2013 to 2024, the venue operated under the name Tele2 Arena, following a sponsorship deal with the Swedish telecom operator. In 2025, the naming rights were acquired by the 3 Group, resulting in the current name: 3Arena.
3Arena stands out for its versatility and innovation in design. It’s not only one of Sweden’s largest football stadiums but also a major cultural venue that has hosted international stars such as Madonna, Rihanna, and Swedish House Mafia. It also hosted the 2023 Men’s Handball World Championship, and the 2015 World Cup of American Football. The combination of elite sports, world-class entertainment, and architectural excellence makes it a unique landmark in Scandinavia.
