Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano is a multi-use stadium in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Constructed between 1995 and 1997, it officially opened on September 25, 1997, ahead of the Central American and Caribbean Games. Since then, it has served as the primary stadium for the Honduras national football team and has hosted important tournaments like the UNCAF Nations Cup, CONCACAF U‑17 Championship, World Cup qualifiers, and select club matches for Marathón and Real España.
With a capacity of approximately 37,325 spectators and a natural grass pitch measuring 105 × 68 meters, the stadium also features an athletics track surrounding the field. It’s the largest stadium in Honduras and the second-largest in Central America and the Caribbean. The open‑air design, with concrete stands, creates an intimidating atmosphere, especially during national team matches.
Built with cost-effective concrete terraces and designed to serve both football and athletics, the stadium includes multi‑use facilities but minimal luxury seating. A large “H” is painted on the front façade in blue—honoring Honduras and its national team colors—added soon after opening.
“El Olímpico” is the popular nickname for Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano. It reflects its role as a major regional sports venue capable of hosting both football and athletics events.
Although specific attendance records vary, the stadium regularly attracts over 35,000 fans for Honduras national team home games. It’s widely regarded as a fortress for the national side, known for its passionate and vocal crowds.
The stadium consists of the following seating areas:
The athletics track creates distance between the stands and the pitch, but sightlines remain generally good for football and track meets.
No official public stadium tours are available or confirmed online. The venue is primarily used for sporting events, and tour information is not provided by official sources.
