Tucked away in the Bornheim district of Frankfurt am Main, the PSD Bank Arena might not make international headlines like the Deutsche Bank Park, but it’s a venue steeped in local pride, rich history, and a surprising range of sporting events. About this place
A Stadium with Deep Roots in German Football
Originally opened on October 11, 1931, under the name Stadion am Bornheimer Hang, the inaugural match saw FSV Frankfurt defeat VfL Germania 1894 by 3 goals to none. From that moment on, the stadium became the spiritual home of FSV Frankfurt, a historic club with over a century of tradition. The venue has also occasionally welcomed matches of the women’s team 1. FFC Frankfurt — now part of Eintracht Frankfurt’s football operations.
A Hub for Football — and American Football
In 2015, the PSD Bank Arena expanded its role on the German sports scene by welcoming Frankfurt Universe, a team competing in the German Football League (GFL), adding American football to its repertoire. More recently, the stadium became the home ground of the Frankfurt Galaxy, one of the founding franchises of the European League of Football (ELF). With this move, the stadium further solidified its reputation as a multi-sport venue in the heart of Hesse.
Hosting History for Kosovo and Youth Internationals
Beyond club matches, the arena has had moments of international significance. On June 3, 2016, it hosted Kosovo’s first official international match recognized by FIFA — a 2–0 victory over the Faroe Islands. Years later, on March 24, 2023, it welcomed the Germany U21 side for a friendly clash against Japan U21, which ended in a 2–2 draw.
