About the Building
History
The stadium is owned by the city of Waregem and is primarily used by the local football club, SV Zulte Waregem, since 2001. Prior to this date, the resident club of this stadium was KSV Waregem until its dissolution in 2011. The stadium is named as such because it was inaugurated during the 1957 Road World Championships. The winner of that race, Belgian cyclist Rik Van Steenbergen, received a rainbow jersey symbolizing his victory.
Currently, the stadium is surrounded by an athletics track that is set to be removed after the renovation of the arena. This will increase the stadium’s capacity to 14,300 spectators.
Starting from the 2021-2022 season, the stadium will change its name to the Elindus Arena.
