The Monumental stadium, also known as the Monumental de Núñez, River Plate stadium, or for sponsorship reasons Mâs Monumental stadium, is a sports venue located at the intersection of Figueroa Alcorta and Udaondo avenues in the neighborhood of Belgrano, Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is owned by Club Atlético River Plate and was inaugurated on May 26, 1938 by the president of that time, Antonio Vespucio Liberti, who also decided its construction.

About the Building

It has a capacity of 83,214 spectators, following renovations carried out in 2023,6789 which began at the end of 2020 with the aim of improving the facilities and increasing the capacity to a total of more than 84,000 spectators, once completed.10 It should be noted that there are records of more than 80,000 people attending matches of great importance, such as the last match of the 1959 Copa América between Argentina and Brazil, and the final of the 1996 Copa Libertadores between River and América de Cali.

It is the stadium with the largest capacity in Argentina and one of the largest in the Americas. It is traditionally the venue where the national team plays most of its home matches. Its importance led it to host four Copa América finals (1946, 1959-I, 1987 and 2011), and the 1978 World Cup final, among other important events.
