The stadium originally opened in 1984 under the name Sportstadion Wolfsberg. Over time, it underwent several renovations to accommodate the ambitions of Wolfsberger AC, especially after their promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga in 2012. In 2011, the venue was renamed Lavanttal-Arena, reflecting the broader region of Lavanttal.
