History
In 1920, the year it opened, the Edmond Machtens stadium belonged to Daring Club de Bruxelles (Daring CB), which, in search of more space, moved there to accommodate more supporters. The club bearing the “Matricule 2” of Belgian soccer played here until its demise in 1973, when it merged with Racing White, matricule 47, to form RWDM (under matricule 47).
Long known as the Charles Malis stadium, after the street on which it is located, the stadium was called the “Oscar Bossaert stadium” from 1939 to 1973, after a former player and then President of Daring CB. Since then, it has been named after Edmond Machtens, former mayor of the commune.
One stand was renamed in 2005 after Raymond Goethals, following his death. The other stand is named “L’Écluse”, after the company of the same name managed by Jean-Baptiste L’Écluse, and which was the historic sponsor of RWDM.
In 2003, RWDM went bankrupt. FC Brussels took over ownership of the stadium.
In 2014, FC Brussels goes bankrupt. RWD Molenbeek (registration number 5479) took over as stadium owner. The club currently plays in the D1B division.
