The Loro Boriçi Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Shkodër - Albania - which is used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Vllaznia.

History

On May 17, 1950, the construction of the stadium began and on May 1, 1952, the stadium was inaugurated and was named after Vojo Kushi, who was an Albanian partisan, hero of Albania In 1990, when communism fell in Albania, the stadium was renamed in honor of the soccer coach and former player Loro Boriçi. Between 2015 and 2016, the stadium was rebuilt into a modern all-seater stadium with a capacity of 16,022 seats.

The stadium was last renovated in 2001. In October 2014, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the reconstruction of the stadium. On May 3, 2015, construction officially began, bringing the stadium to a renewed capacity of 18,100 seats

Who’s Loro Boriçi?

Lorenco Boriçi (August 4, 1922 – April 25, 1984), commonly known as Loro Boriçi, was an Albanian association soccer striker and is considered one of the legends of Albanian soccer.

He played mainly for Partizan Tirana (he won the Albanian championship in 1949 and 1954 and scored 68 goals for the club) and Vllaznia (he won the Albanian championship in 1945). Boriçi was Silvio Piola’s reserve in Italian Serie A with Lazio. He was the captain of Albania that won the Balkan Cup in 1946.
