Despite an official capacity now capped at 80,301, the attendance record is 86,092 for a game played in 1999. In the 2005 NCAA season, the average attendance was 78,232 for six games, for a total of 469,391.

The field is always natural grass. The east side of the stadium is also a grass mound, in stark contrast to three massive stands surrounding the field. The west stand dates back to 2004 and, in time, a similar stand is expected to replace the grassy knoll opposite. The capacity of the grassy mound will be reduced from 6,000 to 4,000 seats in 2006. Combined with the completion of the West Stand, this reduction brings the stadium’s capacity to 80,301 as of September 2006 after 81,473 seats in the 2005 season.

The Carolina Panthers NFL franchise played its 1995 season in this stadium.
